Job Description Rate of Pay: $24.86 The Pastry Chef I prepares all pastry items. * This person maintains control charts of all food items produced and maintains a high degree of cleanliness throughout cooking area. * The Pastry Cook 1 is also responsible for opening and closing checklists and production of daily menu items. * Must be able to read and follow menus and recipes and be able to compute mathematical calculations. * Being the lead in their responsible outlet - banquets, wedding cakes, productions, viennoiserie, etc. * Leading through example, demonstrating with technique and precision to other Pastry Cooks. * Working with the Pastry Chef to produce new menu items, tastings, VIP buffets, etc. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Complete comprehension of baking math and recipe conversion * Knowledge of the entire bakery; able to train other cooks in the kitchen * Advanced skills in the specific areas: wedding cakes, viennoiserie, plated dessert and chocolate/sugar work * Complete understanding of all daily operations, able to assist Pastry Chef and maintain the kitchen in the absence * Able to work each shift in the bakeshop/train new employees on each shift * Compliance with all serve safe & safety procedures/regulations * Designated trainer for department * Flexible with hours and schedule * Minimum 5 years pastry experience; Culinary degree/school preferred * Must have ability to communicate well both verbally and written in basic English.
