General Purpose of Job: The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) provides professional technical services to patients undergoing invasive procedures. The RCIS is able to assist the physician with a variety of invasive procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac, neurological, peripheral, electrophysiological and interventional radiology disorders. Assists health team members in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual patient care in the Invasive Procedure Lab according to standards of care and departmental policies to maximize patient outcomes. - Provides proficient and experienced scrub assistance with the physician in all procedures performed in the Invasive Procedure Lab. Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.
- Exhibits advanced knowledge in hemodynamic calculations and waveforms, with the ability to troubleshoot.
- Able to provide technical assistance for all the invasive procedures with advanced clinical expertise.
- Operates various types of equipment to obtain appropriate data for the physician interpretation and/or reporting functions.
- Understands the normal clinical manifestations of cardiac, neurological, peripheral, electrophysiological, and interventional radiology pathophysiology states. Recognizes abnormalities.
- Ensures procedure documentation is accurate and complete, including case protocol and billing sheet.
- Performs x-ray functions for procedures utilizing good radiation safety practices.
- Assesses patient condition and initiates medical care in accordance with established guidelines and evidence-based practice under physician direction.
- Educates patient/family according to assessed need using mutual participation model to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
- Ensures equipment is maintained in a sound working condition and clean at all times.
- Performs daily room checks, stocking and cleans work area. Including daily Quality Control on ACT/Avox equipment.
- Able to communicate well with patients, families, physicians, visitors and other hospital caregivers.
- Exhibits a self-motivating attitude, work ethic and responsibility to team work.
- Demonstrates ability to quickly adapt to change.
- Proficient in computer skills; id hemodynamic calculations, Word & Excel.
- Demonstrates knowledge and use of unit-specific equipment and appropriate supplies used to deliver the highest quality patient care.
- On-call responsibilities as assigned. Responds within 30 minutes of notification for emergency procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

- Communicates appropriate significant information and changes in the patient's condition to members of the health care team, including but not limited to patient assessment, hemodynamic/EKG/angiographic data.
- Develops and maintains a professional relationship with members of the health care team, the patient and the patient's family, functioning as a contributing team member.
- Delegates and assists in implementation of the care plan to the RN, RTR, Transport Tech or other health caregivers.

- Supports the development of self and other caregivers and students through mentoring, preceptorship and peer review.
- Accountable for professional development and maintaining required licensure and certifications.
- Attends departmental meetings (50% per year), continuing education and training sessions.
- Utilizes current evidence and research in practice.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist with a valid certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). * Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 60 days of hire |
Work Experience |
* (2) year experience in cath lab, ep lab, special procedures or interventional radiology. |
Education |
* Graduate of an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or a Graduate from another accredited health related program. * High school diploma or GED * Preferred- Associates or Bachelors degree of Applied Science |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Proficient in EKG and hemodynamic interpretation. * Proficient in all procedures done in the invasive procedure lab. * Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of self-motivation, flexibility and initiative. |
