Position Summary |
This position is responsible for managing IT core infrastructure and functional processes. Responsible for maintaining additional security measures and proactively engages in project management/coordination for the McBee Institute of Higher Education's faculty, staff, advisers, and students. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
IT desktop operating system, Windows and Mac OS, Windows server administration, Linux server administration, relational and non-relational databases, application support, project management databases, asset management and research competency. |

Desktop and Academic Support
- Lead annual and one-time requests for Student Technology Fees.
- Serve as the first point of contact for IT support requests for faculty, staff, students, and guests.
- Provide all aspects of support for desktop computers (Windows and Mac) including security, peripherals, and software.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with computers, printers, projectors, etc. and eliciting outside support as needed.
- Consult with faculty and staff in the department to ensure that IT standards and practice meet their needs.
- Manage classroom computer maintenance and upgrades.
- Support and maintain systems and processes related to newly approved online MEd program.

- Communicate effectively to faculty and staff concerning IT issues, policies, procedures.
- Create documentation, participate in assigned teams or committees, attend meetings, and work with colleagues as a mentee with EITS and Franklin College personnel.
- Develop training materials and presentations upon request.
- Monitor IT practices, explore alternatives and recommend solutions, and assist with planning and problem solving.
- Serve as liaison for vendor support, gather quotes, and initiate purchase requests.
- Help optimize workflow and review processes to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness.

Project, Asset, and Facilities Management
- Participate in complex IT projects with a department or college-wide scope.
- Provide project oversight for a variety of internal and third-party data and software products and contracts, specifically USG and UGA partner units, Acuity Server Administration, Pantheon, Amazon Web Services, and the National Center for Education Statistics.
- Engage in inventory tracking and life cycle management for desktop/laptop computers and related devices.
- Initiate updates to the building's alarm and door lock schedules; work with security team on alarm issues; monitor and report on building fire alarm panel and AED equipment; secure and assign building keys.
- Enter and monitor FMD work requests to resolve facility issues as they arise (e.g. plumbing, pest control, etc.); discuss general building upkeep and special cleaning projects with custodial supervisor and staff.

Security/Standards Management
- Serve as unit security liaison by being a campus domain network liaison (DNL); this position will work with EITS and colleagues to diagnose and resolve wired and wireless network connectivity issues.
- Serve as Security Officer for federal datasets, maintaining secure environment, passwords, and proper protocol.
- In collaboration with faculty, staff, and colleagues, develop security standards and practices or computer services.
- Use the planning process to seek alignment with college and university-level standards and practices.
- Scan server files for vulnerabilities and storage for restricted data to include SSN#s.

Website and Network Management
- Provide security and maintenance for the MIHE Drupal 8 website.
- Make functional upgrades to website using Linux software.
- Re-image lab desktop computers quarterly to maintain security and function of the lab.
- Upgrade server operating systems.
- Process and monitor server file migration to ensure all folders, permission/group policies are appropriately applied.
- Provide support for network switch migrations.
- Emergency technical support as needed.
