Registered Nurse - Pre/Post/PACU- Ambulatory Surgery Center

Job Summary
Supervises and directs patient care in the pre-procedure area and post-procedure area. Assesses patient needs, develops individual plan of care and identifies outcomes. Ensures that appropriate techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients when providing care in the surgical suite. Assists physician(s) and other personnel to assure good outcomes. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient care in the pre-procedure and post-procedure area. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of infection control practices. Functions effectively in emergency situations and when under stress. Provides patient/family education by utilizing clinical knowledge in an environment conducive to learning. Assists in local-monitoring of surgical cases. Assists with pre-admission nursing phone calls and chart reviews Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical and nursing diagnoses, knowledge of specific illness, injuries, diseases, procedures, and appropriate standards of care. Prioritizes and provides nursing care based on the individualized plan of care. Takes the initiative to participate in continuing education and/or in-services to build and expand scope of practice. Manage the care of patients receiving sedation or analgesic medications while undergoing invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Medication administration, patient monitoring, discharge instructions, family teaching and patient safety concerns are all nursing care critical elements of patients undergoing moderate sedation. Other duties as assigned. Responsible for verifying surgical consent with surgery schedule. Responsible for order entry based on surgeon preference/standing orders. Responsible for updating physician order sets, smart phrases, and discharge instructions in EPIC. Relays special requests and pertinent information to appropriate personnel. Perform patient teaching/education as needed. Perform outbound patient follow up calls including but not limited to post op calls. Assess physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational and developmental dimensions of the patient from pre-op phone call through patient discharge, and provides written documentation of these findings. Assess & document patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical interventions & communicates the information to the appropriate persons. Assess patient needs based on preadmission history, scheduled surgical procedure, and physician preferences.

Experience Qualifications
* Previous experience working on an Electronic medical record Required
* Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center Preferred
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
* Knowledge of organizational policies, relations and procedures to administer patient care
* Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments and administer patient care
* Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
* Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care
* Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions
* Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
* Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance
* Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
* Ability to maintain quality control standards
* Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
* Ability to interpret, adapts, and applies guidelines and procedures
* Ability to communicate clearly
Licenses and Certifications
* RN with current Wisconsin license Upon Hire Required
* Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS Certifications Upon Hire Required
