Process Engineer - Cast House

Arconic is currently in search of Process Engineer to join our Cast House department in Lancaster, PA.

The position will provide process and maintenance reliability improvements to safely meet the Lancaster Mill business plan by providing support to production and maintenance department to achieve plant goals. Assist and lead production, technical and maintenance with various types of equipment and reliability issues from a problem-solving perspective. Develop, manage and implement process/equipment improvement related projects and interface with Maintenance and Engineering to provide process engineering support. The position reports directly to the Maintenance and Reliability Manager with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Operations Managers

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supports the team in safely producing the highest quality product in accordance with plant standards.
  • Accountability for the development and implementation of a reliability system that will result in more reliable equipment to better meet the operation needs in a consistent manner.
  • Implementation and execute predictive and preventative technologies to improve reliability and ensure customer (internal and external) expectations.
  • Provide sound recommendations for long-term improvement of equipment and process by remaining up to date with Best Practices and through consultation with the CoE group.
  • Participate in the annual development of the plant's three year budget process through scope development, solicitation for quotes and generation of the related project description and budget cost.
  • Develop a core cross-functional project team and problem solving process to systematically solve bad actors and top unplanned downtimes to drive process reliability.
  • Leads deeper problem solving and RCA events to determine major leverage points for improvement.
  • Project Management:

    • Generate and submit recommended vendors and related work scope & cost to Purchasing through the purchase requisition computer system
    • Generate all contractor safety documentation
    • Lead or participate in pre-job meetings.
    • Coordinate & oversee all engineering/design, fabrication of equipment
    • Generate appropriate work orders requesting assistance from maintenance
    • Coordinates maintenance and production resources for outages
    • Manages project forecasting processes and procedures for capital and expense projects.


Key Objectives

  • Monitors, tracks and reports key reliability and machine efficiency metrics to identify opportunities for equipment and process improvements.
  • Development of equipment, system and location hierarchy. Performance of criticality analysis and determination of risk priority numbers for the site's assets.
  • Performance of RCM/FMEA on critical assets.
  • Development of equipment maintenance plans.
  • Leads the development of the corrective actions and problem solving for issues related to reliability and machine efficiency.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate content of related SOP's for the area.
  • Maintain equipment criticality assessments and the effective use of maintenance strategies and technologies to protect the business from unplanned failures.
  • Monitor all process improvement activities and take action to capture savings in the DI System.
  • Attend and report on department projects regarding reliability
  • Leads daily management process connections between production and maintenance
  • Develops pipeline of new technology to help reliability processes
  • Active presence on the floor to support team in areas of reliability and machine efficiency
  • Attends team meeting to support the team in areas of reliability and machine efficiency
  • Works safely, practicing and promoting safety consciousness through Human Performance principles.
  • Coordination of the implementation of the reliability-based maintenance strategies.
  • Definition of reliability-based queries and reports to support a continuous improvement process
  • Accountable for area process changes to ensure product quality is maintained, managing and controlling risks to safety and process integrity. Communicates process changes to affected personnel outside of the production area.
  • Work with maintenance support groups to develop predictive maintenance protocol.
  • Maintain compliance with all Alcoa Engineering Standards.
  • Translates corporate and plant objectives into meaningful and achievable goals for the department.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and EHS requirements.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.
  • Promotes and practices Arconic Business System concepts and philosophies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a technical field, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Power BI)
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be results oriented.
  • Able to work flexible hours as required.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical/electrical and process aptitude preferred
  • Working knowledge of PLC systems.
  • Working knowledge of Casting, Rolling, and Finishing Technology (as appropriate by area) preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems preferred
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals and teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude.
  • Operational knowledge regarding process, equipment capability, practices, systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
