As part of a diverse and hardworking team of experts, you will set up, develop, and operate complex machining processes for Turbo Machine components supporting assembly of flight hardware for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of transforming the way rockets are made and operated. You will work closely with area leadership and Engineering to implement, document, refine, and standardize new manufacturing processes and continually look for ways to improve the process, quality of hardware, and the area you work in. This will be accomplished by direct hands-on experience with the development and production of impellers and other Turbo Machine components utilizing multi-axis machining, turning, and/or grinding centers. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Will be expected to train at our Cape Canaveral, FL location 2 weeks a month for the first 6 months of tenure. Position will be permanently based in Huntsville, AL.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years in manufacturing working hands on in an aerospace environment
  • Minimum of 7 years working with multi axis lathes and high speed 5 axis mills producing complex parts with tight tolerances
  • Minimum of 7 years working with hardened metals.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Extensive experience with Mazak, Okuma, Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, and other CNC controls.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard
  • Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities
  • Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if/when necessary
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Experience with turbo machine components made from nickel-based stainless-steel alloys, copper, or titanium
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
  • Outside processing knowledge (heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.)
