The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Minimum Qualifications |
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications. |
Preferred Qualifications |
B.S. in biology/microbiology or related field with 2 years related lab experience. Experience with
RNA/
DNA extraction,
PCR, and sequencing in a diagnostic laboratory setting. General computer knowledge including the ability to use spreadsheets. |
Position Summary |
This position is responsible for conducting molecular
PCR/RT-
PCR on clinical and quality control samples submitted to the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center. Specific job duties will include biological sample preparation,
DNA and/or
RNA extraction,
PCR/RT-
PCR/real-time
PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, digital imaging of gels, post
PCR purification, and preparation of
DNA sequencing samples in a fast paced, diagnostic laboratory. Other responsibilities include data collection, data entry, assistance with maintaining molecular laboratory supplies and stock solutions and communicating results with other members of the lab team. The job may occasionally involve work after hours or on weekends. |

- Basic laboratory skills
- good interpersonal and time management skills and proficiency with standard computer programs (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Training in specific laboratory techniques will be available upon hire.
