Job Description

Base Salary of $45,000 with a Target Commission opportunity of $126,000 based on $3 million in Mortgage Loan Production

Role:

This position contributes to the success of Gulf Winds by proactively soliciting mortgage business and selling Gulf Winds' mortgage products. Mortgage Loan Originators (MLOs) at Gulf Winds are expected to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with area realtors, builders, attorneys and other sources of mortgage referrals. This position is responsible for providing excellent service - responding to member and potential member inquiries and referrals that are generated from their own efforts and from other Gulf Winds' channels.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Conducts interviews with prospective borrowers in order to analyze financial and credit data, determine member financing objectives, advise members of product/pricing policies and guidelines, and gather any additional required information.

Proactively solicits new mortgage loan applications by developing relationships within the community, specifically with the real estate community; making outside sales calls to prospective members.

Ensures exceptional customer service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, complying with all Federal and State compliance policies and adhering to HMDA requirements.

Meets mortgage loan operational standards by contributing mortgage loan information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and member-service standards; resolving problems.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Complies with all applicable rules, regulations and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:



  1. MLO meets or exceeds the minimum established sales goals and actively cross sells Gulf Winds products.
  2. Referrals are handled expeditiously; interviews are conducted in a professional manner; all information is gathered accurately; rates and pricing are quoted accurately.
  3. Strong relationships exist with business referral sources; referral rate is successful.
  4. Audits and observations show all transactions and activity to be in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  5. Surveys and feedback from business partners, prospects, and members show that MLO is providing consistently excellent service and follow up.
  6. Complies with all applicable rules, regulations and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC and Physical Security.


Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Two to three years of similar or related experience.

Must pass requirements for registration with NMLS.

Education: A high school education or GED.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills * Knowledge of conventional and/or government mortgage lending guidelines



  • Knowledge of processing underwriting and/or closing procedures/federal lending regulations governing real estate lending
  • Ability to manage a heavy pipeline of 50 plus loans Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Teamwork and customer service skills a must Self-motivated and highly organized Ability to prioritize multiple competing task
  • Strong computer skills including MS applications and previous experience utilizing laptop technology for communication purposes including accessing rate, credit and loan status information.
  • Solid time management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a variety of audiences
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial data and provide financial alternatives
  • This position may be subject to SAFE Act Registration Requirements. Pursuant to the SAFE Act requirements, all applicants for employment who will be engaged in residential loan mortgage originations (as defined by the SAFE Act) must register with the federal registry system and maintain a status in good standing under the SAFE Act requirements. If at any time the Bank determines that your position requires SAFE Act registration, you will be required to register and to submit to the required SAFE Act background check and registration process. Failure to register successfully or to maintain a status in good standing under the SAFE Act with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System will affect your eligibility for continued employment and may result in your immediate termination.


Must have good communication skills; 10-key calculator and keyboard skills required.

Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English clearly.

Normally expected to work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. but may be required to work nights and/or weekends.

Must adhere to safety rules and regulations.
