Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care

Project Scientist Series

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care, University of California Irvine Health System, anticipates openings in the Project Scientist Series (Assistant, Associate, and Full Project Scientist).

Our current research focuses on validation of drug target in vitro and in animal models. Cellular and molecular biology techniques, histochemistry, rodent neuropathic pain (peripheral nerve injury and trigeminal nerve injury) models, behavioral pharmacology, and spinal cord slice recording are utilized in the studies.

Preference will be given to an applicant who is self-motivated, interested in pursuing an academic research career, an independent thinker, and has experience in using one or more of the following techniques: chronic pain models, behavioral pharmacology, immunohistochemistry, and spinal cord slice recording. Experience in one or more of the following preferred: in vitro and in animal models, cellular and molecular biology techniques, histochemistry, rodent neuropathic pain (peripheral nerve injury and trigeminal nerve injury) models, behavioral pharmacology, and spinal cord slice recording are utilized in the studies.

Appointment ranking will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The candidate for a title in this series must have earned a doctorate or its equivalent. A candidate for appointment in this series shall be judged by the criteria specified below:



  • Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project.
  • Professional competence and activity


Appointees in this series need not demonstrate the same independence or scholarly breadth as members of the Professor or Professional Research series. University and public service are encouraged but not required.
