Description
As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a Custodial Floor Care Technician who will promote Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff by acting as the primary point of contact for all communication for Custodial Floor Tech.
General Statement of Job:



  • Floor Technician is responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surface and carpet (applying finish, buffing, shampooing and extraction) areas that include offices, classrooms, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, dorm rooms, and public areas. They are also responsible for the daily maintenance of floors in the facility with the ability of fine detailed cleaning. Refinishes and maintains vinyl floors, ceramic tile, Terrazzo, and carpeted areas.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan Intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Provides floor maintenance; including but not limited to applying finish, vacuuming, shampooing, extracting carpets, stairwells, and upholstery.
  • Handles Floor Care, including routine mopping and dust mopping on hard surfaces and operates cleaning equipment such as, vacuum (upright and backpack), burnishers, auto-scrubber, roto, ready space, and deep carpet extractors.
  • Sweeps and mops floor areas, spot-cleans carpets and furniture using appropriate solutions, and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned area.
  • Properly cleans and stores equipment.
  • Returns unused supplies to janitor closet and ensures all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Reports any equipment that is malfunctioning and maintains preventative maintenance.
  • Provides other cleaning services, such as, dusting, routine restroom, office, and classroom cleaning.
  • Snow removal/salting at entry ways.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Attend all department training sessions.
  • Employee MUST follow all University and departmental rules, regulations/policies, and procedures.
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner
  • Report needed repairs to building and equipment to manager or supervisor.

Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
