Truth:We seek the truth, and we speak the truth POSITION SUMMARY: This position successfully leads projects to reflect company goals, specifically safety, delivery of project under budget and on-time while maintaining quality and customer relationships. This is accomplished by coordinating craft efforts and customer needs to successfully support overall project objectives. The incumbent assists the supervisors in mitigation strategies as soon as variances from schedule are identified. Daily progressing against daily plan is required to identify and mitigate variances. The individual will be required to learn aspects of project management to include initiating and negotiating change orders, setting up projects in company ERP system and invoicing the customer. The role reports to the Project Manager on an assigned project, but remains a direct report of the appropriate Director level manager. JOB SCOPE: The position operates within general parameters, but must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. Has the ability to influence and change existing protocols. Through subordinate supervisors, the position has overall responsibility for all production employees. He/she works with considerable independence following the guidelines and goals identified by the Project Manager on assigned projects in order to achieve production goals and benchmarks. Failure to meet deadlines could result in loss of business and rework. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The role may direct salaried and hourly supervisors and employees responsible for the day-to-day assignments. Employees have varying degrees of technical expertise. The level of supervision is more hands-on. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The Project Superintendent works with many levels inside Ship Repair. This position represents the Company through formal and informal interactions with the customer. Interfaces with and takes direction from the Project Manager on assigned projects in generating executable work plans for supervisors performing the work. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: AA degree or equivalent work experience is required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: None required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual will be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard ships. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.
