The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Communications Program Coordinator. This position has an end date of 8/31/25, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.

The University of Texas, Dell Medical School (DMS), is a Health Research Institute (HRI) with the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium. The program and projects of the HRI work to address the clinical needs of the programs which address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in Texas for children, adolescents and their families. This position will coordinate assigned projects related to the Texas Child Mental Health programs such as the Child and Perinatal Psychiatric Access Networks (CPAN/PeriPAN) and Texas Child Health Access through Telemedicine (TCHATT) and other similar and/or related projects for the Central Texas catchment area. This position will support communications initiatives related to psychiatric and access program, ensuring alignment with legislative, institutional, and program goals.

The candidate should possess a strong combination of writing, project management, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.This position also requires strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a communications team, medical providers and program administrators and coordinators. The candidate must also possess an extraordinary attention to detail.

This position will be assigned on-campus with an expectation to work on-site for some of the scheduled work week, which will require that you work and live in central Texas. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable workspace free from distractions. DMS HR will contact employees to confirm location of residence and work location is allowable by UT standards. Failing to accurately report work location may result in revocation of approval of Flexible Work Arrangement and/or other disciplinary action.

Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to submit three newsletters, website pages, news releases, blogs, or other relevant content they played a substantial part in writing/creating. All pieces should be under 1,500 words, with a preferred length of 700 words. Please include information about: what role you took in each piece's creation, what role you took in each piece's editing, and what role you took in each piece's dissemination.

Purpose

Execute and deliver on communications strategies that elevate awareness and impact of the Texas Child Mental Health programs and other related initiatives which are aimed at improving mental health access and care for children and adolescents in Central Texas.

Responsibilities
  • In alignment with the legislative, Consortium and University strategies, develop engaging and persuasive written content that focuses on the impact of the many mental health access programs that work to advance our mission. Content may take the form of slide decks, flyers, brochures, reports, newsletters, graphic designs, logos, promotional videos, website, and social media content that engage a variety of audiences, including physicians, school administrators and counselors, community mental health providers, parents, and children and adolescents. Collaborate with subject matter experts to create technical content that can be easily understood by broad audiences.

  • Deliver and target content to specific audiences. Disseminate content through digital marketing tools, including websites, newsletters, and other channels. Create standard operating procedures related to communication efforts. Edit and proofread materials for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to branding guidelines.Participate in proofreading, editing, and publishing processes.

  • Under the direction of the Sr. Communications Program Coordinator, conduct advanced planning and development of communication material presentations, webinars, meetings, and special events that help meet strategic goals and expand the reach of the Texas Child Mental Health programs and similar initiatives. Collaborate with the outreach team to ensure that all necessary communication collateral has been produced and is available for all events and meetings. Prepare materials and/or talking points for clinicians and clinical leadership for key and important interactions.

  • Assist with the development and/or review of internal communications, such as employee newsletters and updates. As related to the TCMHP and other initiatives, coordinate School and/or Department-wide communications initiatives and events. Represent program in inter-departmental and inter-institutional meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least three years of professional experience in communications or related field, at least one of which is in a medical, educational, non-profit or public sector setting or Master's degree and one year of experience. Excellent writing, communications, design and proofreading skills. Experience executing comprehensive communications plans, and/or managing multiple communications projects simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working with cross-institutional branding guidelines, website development, social media content, and/or graphic design. Experience with communicating complex information to broad audiences, including high-profile stakeholders. Experience using Smartsheet, Kanbanchi, or other project management platform. Knowledge of national, state, and local mental health policy. Familiarity with programs: Canva, Adobe InDesign, MailChimp, Salesforce and/or WordPress. Experience working with cross-program/cross-departmental/cross-institutional communications.

Salary Range

$45,000+ depending on qualifications
