Overview

A critical part of Edmund Optics' Cupertino Solutions Center, the Regional Business Development Manager (Bay Area) will leverage EO's extremely well- known and trusted brand to identify new applications/markets and expand existing business. Supported by our technical sales, technical marketing, engineering, technology, and manufacturing resources, this function will serve as the key role in introducing Edmund Optics to and acquiring business from the largest companies and latest technology opportunities in Silicon Valley and the Greater Bay Area. This position is of a highly professional level, requiring demonstrated successful experience in technical sales and business development.



Responsibilities

Business Development:

    Identifies, forecasts, and acquires new growth opportunities in both new and existing accounts while leveraging EO current business in the Greater Bay Area.
  • Pursues new business with both new and existing customers based on information and leads obtained from local contacts, existing business as well as corporate headquarters, trade shows, outside sales, PSEs, CRM, and other avenues.
  • Utilizes current, or develops new relationships to form strategic partnerships that open new opportunities and/or new markets.
  • Interacts with and coordinates activities with EO Executives, Business Line Managers, and Engineering/Technology leaders to develop strategies, positions, and products for new opportunities.

Account Management:

  • Works with assigned inside reps and other personnel to deliver quotations, proposals, and process orders obtained in accordance with company policy.
  • Functions as the primary Key Account Manager for a select list of strategic customer partners in the Bay Area, utilizing Large Account Management principles.
  • Develops intimate knowledge of the internal operations and requirements of all key customers.
  • Responsible for maintaining and achieving margin goal for all assigned accounts.
  • Manages all aspects of the sales process and post sales process, driving customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with global sales colleagues and other global cross-functional resources in support of global key account management of assigned accounts.

Management and Leadership

  • Act as a senior leader of Edmund Optics' Cupertino Solutions Center, overseeing daily operations and interfacing with other company leadership.
  • Advise, mentor, and coach other office team members in all things sales and selling.
  • Actively engage in the Bay Area Optics & Photonics relevant community, both through attending conferences/meetings/events and planning and hosting EO's own events.
  • Prepares call reports, reports of business transactions, and monthly forecasts.
  • Maintains CRM customer and opportunities database.
  • Maintains and submits weekly itinerary and keeps expense accounts.

Education/Experience:

  • BA/ BS in Optics or Physics, Electronics, or other engineering degree
  • 5+ years in related optics/photonics technical sales position
  • Exceptional organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong consultative sales skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

Physical Requirements:

Ability to operate office equipment such as a copier, ability to operate an automobile for making customer visits; ability to see details at a close range; ability to sit at desk or PC for long periods of time; work in and out of office setting, lift up 50 lbs. for set up and demonstration of equipment.
