Job Summary:



The Senior BI Developer provides expert-level holistic business intelligence and data analysis support for the Health Data Compass and the larger Anschutz community. This includes analyzing and delivering complex datasets in response to faculty healthcare data requests, developing reports, correlating and visualizing data using a variety of systems, and designing more robust BI solutions to address projects or end-user requests. As subject matter experts, Senior BI Developers will also support and mentor more junior members of the data delivery team. This position will contribute to Compass' mission of serving the Anschutz research community within a HIPAA-compliant environment.

This role will provide expert BI supporting healthcare investigators, faculty, and staff, both internal and external to Compass, to drive projects to completion and communicate expectations effectively. A successful candidate for the Senior BI Developer position will take ownership of requests and projects, leading them to successful completion. They will effectively communicate expectations, demonstrate creative problem-solving abilities, and produce clear and concise documentation.

Supervision Received: This position will report to the Data Delivery Manager or Data Request Program Manager

Key Responsibilities:



  • Act as a business intelligence and data analysis SME, mentoring and supporting the BI Developer team.
  • Develop SQL queries for high-quality datasets and data marts, ensuring project scope, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
  • Identify and communicate data anomalies, verifying HIPAA compliance of delivered data.
  • Enhance data delivery processes and refine organizational policies to align with industry best practices.
  • Facilitate code reviews, mentor junior BI Developers, and share expertise to promote team skill development.
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot data quality issues and validate new data sources, directing users to appropriate resources for storage and computing needs.
  • Lead customer engagement, scoping, and documentation for data requests, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and accurate project documentation through the Compass case management system.



Work Location:



Remote - this role is eligible to work remotely, but the employee must be in the United States.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least four (4) years of professional-level experience in a healthcare-related environment working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation, or equivalent experience.*
  • At least two (2) years of SQL programming experience.*


*Experience may be obtained simultaneously.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Epic Certified in Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, and/or Clinical Data Model.
  • Master's degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience managing terminology mapping documentation, data profiling, and data mapping documentation.
  • Experience in standardized clinical code systems (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and common data models (OMOP).
  • Experience working with secure web platforms for building and managing databases (e.g., REDCAP).
  • Experience working in an academic core service or support service.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Advanced BI Developer skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • SQL skills for querying data (especially for cloud computing).
  • BI developer skills (e.g., Tableau reports).
  • Experience working within HIPAA-compliant and other sensitive data environments.
  • Extensive experience with clinical data (e.g., Epic proficiencies or certifications).
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to support the development of BI dashboards and reports, and data analytic initiatives

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $76,299 to $97,052.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
