Job Summary

  • Engage with and support new and continuing GCC students via in-person, video chat, phone, and email.
  • Serve as a resource for students by coaching, referring, and communicating with student peers in a virtual and face-to-face environment.
  • Provide 1-on-1 appointments to assist students in navigating their college campus in a remote or physical setting by providing timely referrals to students who express need, or are identified as in need for counseling services, career guidance, academic intervention, financial support, and technology access.
  • Coach students in areas of time management, study skills, student best practices and setting goals.
  • Contribute to the overall success and retention of new students within their
    first academic year and beyond by providing the right information and support at the right time.
  • Recruit students for the Peer Success Coach Program through tabling, presentations, and 1-on-1 connections
  • Support and help develop programming and events for the Peer Success Coach Program and collaborate with other departments on campus to support and increase student engagement

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.
  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a formal or informal peer-to-peer mentoring program
  • Experience in a leadership role in a student club/organization or previous campus employment
  • Effective written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by application and resume
  • Experience working in Google Suite (Email, Docs, Sites, Sheets and Apps)
  • Desire to coach and help others achieve their goals
  • Comfortability with difficult conversations and speaking in 1-on-1, small, and large group settings
