Development Manager (Wordpress)

This position will play a key role in the design and development of technology solutions in support of the global phenomenon of online education and enabling higher education accessibility to students around the world.

The ideal candidate will need to possess a strong well-rounded technical acumen and leadership skills to work effectively across multiple projects. Candidate will be responsible for implementing and supporting new and existing features and continually expanding the capabilities of our technology solutions, architecture, and supporting tooling. Agile experience and a proficiency in full stack software development with a passion to produce superior results. This Development Manager will work collaboratively to understand the dynamics of online marketing processes and convert business requirements into performant, high quality software. Candidate will have the ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project. The successful candidate will lead a development team responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization's Digital Experience Platform (CMS) on a large-scale custom WordPress technology stack.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Responsible for managing a development team tasked with implementing new features and maintaining and enhancing existing functionality.
• Works effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Maintains a broad knowledge of emergent trends in software development platforms, tools, methodologies, and their underlying principles.
• Designs and develop software required to support the business.
• Provides technical leadership, coaches, and mentors team members to produce high quality software.
• Communicates effectively with team members and project leadership to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions.
• Continually seeks opportunities to increase product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.
• Provides application support by analyzing defects, replicating/fixing defects and providing root cause analysis for defects. Troubleshoots and resolves functional and performance related issues.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

• BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or MIS and relevant field of study is preferred.
• Strong communication, leadership skills.
• Very proficient in all areas of Software Development and Agile Methodologies. Strong experience with formal Software Development Life Cycle processes.
• Proficiency in Software Engineering and Software Design/Architecture best practices.
• Significant experience designing and building enterprise-class low-latency, high performance web-based applications in a 24x7 environment.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with full stack WordPress development, including:
  • WordPress site architecture; experience customizing WordPress (building and managing custom themes, plugins, custom integrations).
  • Strong knowledge of large scale, enterprise level WordPress administration, hosting.
  • Deep knowledge of WordPress marketplace: commercial plugins/add-ons.
  • Expertise optimizing performance of WordPress sites.
  • Experience with change management in a large-scale WordPress environment (100+ sites): devops - CI/CD pipelines, process automation.

• 4+ years of hands-on full stack WordPress development experience, strong php development skills.
• 4+ years of hands-on development experience with MySQL v8.x (understanding of WordPress schema, strong SQL, database design skills).
• 3+ years of hands-on development front-end development experience using CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX and HTML5, responsive design.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience designing custom large-scale, high volume enterprise web platform solutions.
• 4+ years of experience managing a software development team.
