WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) ...

The Prescriber/Psychiatrist for Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services (IICAPS) plays a crucial role in providing psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and treatment oversight for children, adolescents, and their families receiving intensive mental health services. This position integrates psychiatric care within a multidisciplinary team setting to support comprehensive treatment planning and implementation.

Essential Duties:

Psychiatric Assessment and Diagnosis-

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of children and adolescents referred to the IICAPS program.
  • Formulate accurate diagnoses based on clinical assessment, medical history, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Medication Management and Treatment Planning:

  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications as part of integrated recovery plans, ensuring efficacy and safety.
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and other team members to develop individualized recovery goals and strategies.

Consultation and Collaboration:

  • Provide consultation to the multidisciplinary team regarding psychiatric issues, treatment options, and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with external providers, including primary care physicians, therapists, and community agencies, to coordinate care and ensure continuity of treatment.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of psychiatric assessments, recovery plans, progress notes, and medication management in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, program protocols, and medication prescribing guidelines.

Quality Assurance and Improvement:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance psychiatric services, treatment outcomes, and patient satisfaction within the IICAPS program.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of psychiatric interventions and adjust recovery plans as necessary.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU...

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine and prescribe medications in the state of Rhode Island
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in providing psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and families, preferably in a community-based or intensive in-home setting.
  • Proficiency in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment modalities for child and adolescent mental health disorders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES...

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate complex medical information clearly and compassionately.
  • Understanding of psychiatric disorders, treatment protocols, and developmental considerations for children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, including indications, side effects, and monitoring.
  • Awareness of how family systems and dynamics impact child and adolescent mental health.
  • Understanding of techniques and protocols for managing psychiatric emergencies.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in prescribing and managing psychotropic medications.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Competence in managing psychiatric crises and emergency interventions.
  • Strong skills in maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Applying sound clinical judgment in complex situations.
  • Adapting to changing situations and environments, including home settings.
  • Addressing treatment challenges and barriers to care.
  • Educating clients and families about conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies
  • Providing patient-centered care with genuine empathy and compassion.
