Ultrasound Technologist - Per Diem

Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound procedures including but not limited to: anatomy and pathology of general abdominal, Ob/Gyn, vascular and small parts imaging.
    • 1)Demonstrates and performs exams for pediatric to geriatric populations in a competent manner.
    • 2)Communicates with radiologist and/or peers to ensure optimal image acquisition. Seeks help when needed.
    • 3)Performs proper patient identification to ensure the safe delivery fo care.
    • 4)Adheres to infection control procedures.
    • 5)Follows appropriate workflows in RIS/PACS to ensure proper image presentation, charge entry and data integrity.
  • Demonstrates the behaviors of excellence with all patient interactions. Strives to provide quality exams in a timely manner while keeping a customer first philosophy.
    • 1)Reviews patient record for pertinent medical history and/or obtains a proper history from the patient related to the reason for exam.
    • 2)Utilizes AIDET communication skills with all patient encounters.
    • 3)Performs proper workflow in RIS/PACS to facilitate physician review and maximize report turnaround time.
    • 4)Works with department leadership on process improvement and QI activities as requested.
  • Takes initiative in maintaining and developing professional growth by staying abreast of current practices within the specialty.
    • 1)Obtains membership in ARDMS
    • 2)Takes initiative in professional development thru continuing education opportunities. Adheres to industry standard in acquiring required amount of CMEs.
    • 3)Adheres to the Advocate Behaviors of Excellence with all internal and external customers and coworkers.
  • Ensures a secure and safe patient and work environment.
    • 1)Complies with Standards for infection control to prevent cross-contamination to patients and instruments thru proper use of high level disinfection of probes according to process.
    • 2)Performs appropriate handling, exchange and documentation of high level disinfectants used on equipment.
    • 3)Adheres to HIPAA compliance standards by protecting patient information, passwords and system access.
  • Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.
    • 1)Demonstrates and promotes teamwork with flexibility, willingness to assist other departmental service locations as requested, showing respect and cooperation with all departments and individuals, living the Advocate Behaviors of Excellence.
    • 2)Demonstrates reliability for attendance and punctuality.
    • 3)Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility for change.
    • 4)Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.
    • 5)Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Ultrasound

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Be able to perform general and vascular ultrasound exams with minimal supervision. Exams may be checked by a charge technologist prior to an interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Registered by the ARDMS with subspecialty certification in OB/GYN, Abdomen, Breast or Vascular obtained within one year of hire. CPR Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. -Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence. -Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. -Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. -May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as high level disinfectants -Role requires willingness and ability to perform job functions at locations within the system, outside of the home department Ability to perform lifting activities according to DOL definitions. -Ability to endure long periods of time viewing small CRT's during patient examinations. -Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. LIGHT: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. *This role must recognize teh needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development; normal patterns of adolescent behavioral and look for signs of normal aging, prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
