Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development and modification of process parameters for injection molding of plastic components
  • Development and performance of process DoE's for the modification and improvement of injection molding process parameters for specific components
  • Redesign/modify components/systems as required to ensure long-term manufacturing reliability.
  • Coordinates activities with internal tooling engineers to create/ensure the ability to manufacture products on a production scale.
  • Coordinates activities within the Manufacturing department to ensure product/ samples are produced that meet the component/assembly specifications.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolution of customer complaints where engineering support is required.
  • Maintain/improve existing product designs in support of Manufacturing activities.
  • Creates/modifies BOM's/Engineering Masters required for production of product.
  • Creates/modifies QC Inspection Procedure work instructions used to monitor component and assembly quality during manufacturing. This includes designing any tests and fixtures required for this purpose.
  • Ensures that engineering documentation is appropriately maintained and controlled according to ISO practices
  • Any other duties/tasks as requested by Manager.
  • Sample new molds to produce parts for engineering validation
  • Troubleshoot critical jobs throughout the production run
  • Provide and implement ideas to improve the efficiency of the molding department; participate and contribute to discussions and actions for addressing engineering issues involving tooling or product
  • Responsible for recording and re-recording allprocesses after ensuring all key areas are correct including "mold protection".
  • Practices good housekeeping and appropriate measures to prevent pollution and other negative impacts on the environment

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate Plastics Engineering degree required, or Mechanical. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years experience in production support/product design role primarily with injection molded parts and assemblies. A degree in Plastics Engineering can be substituted for experience requirement
  • Experience or knowledge with lean/six sigma tools
  • Must be fluent in 3D Modeling of parts and assemblies
  • Firm understanding of the scientific injection molding process and tool design as it relates to part design for manufacturability
  • Advanced level of mold setting and injection mold processing- minimum of 8 years experience
  • Knowledge of mold assembly and its effects on processing capabilities
  • Experience troubleshooting primary and advanced processing and tooling issues
  • Knowledge of raw materials and their processing characteristics
  • Advanced Molding machine auxiliary equipment understanding
  • Excellent data collection and communication skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with computer-controlled machines
  • Basic statistics and design of experiments
  • Master Molder Certified, a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Manufacturing and warehouse environment. Frequent stooping and bending. Regularly required to sit or stand and move about the facility. Physical ability to lift boxes up to 70 lbs.
