Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time University Services Officer to join our Public Safety team.

The shift we are seeking to fill is Wednesday through Sunday, 12:00am to 8:00am.

Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, University Services Officers provide safety and security for the MSOE campus, including the residence halls. University Services Officers check the identification of anyone entering the residence halls, answer the telephone, dispatch the campus shuttle, transport members of the MSOE community to and from specific locations on and off campus, and monitor the department's video surveillance system.

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor the entrance/lobby of the residence halls
  • Check the identification of anyone entering the residence halls
  • Check in and out guests of MSOE students
  • Answer the telephone in the Public Safety Office
  • Dispatch the MSOE Campus Shuttle
  • Transport member of the MSOE community to and from locations within the campus shuttle boundaries
  • Assist Patrol Officers with building/room access requests
  • Assist Patrol Officers with jump start requests
  • Check in and out keys to various campus departments
  • Monitor the department's video surveillance system
  • Compose reports on violations taking place in the residence halls.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol all campus buildings
  • Provide breaks for Public Safety Communications Officers during their assigned shift
  • Transport students to approved doctor appointments scheduled through the Wellness Center
  • Assist the Lead Communications Officer with updating the Public Safety Department Standard Operating Procedures
  • Sign out vehicle keys to individuals on the approved driver's list
  • Assist with Evacuation Drills


This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Previous Public Safety experience helpful, but not required


Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.
  • The employee must also have the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to operate a motor vehicle. Must be willing to drive in all types of weather conditions.
