ATI is a global manufacturer of technically advanced specialty materials and complex components. Our products support diverse markets and industries such as aerospace and defense, oil & gas, electrical energy, medical, automotive, and other industrial markets.

We are seeking to hire an entry-level Metallurgical Engineer for our Monroe, NC production facility. This position will support ATI's Specialty Materials business unit.

As a Metallurgical Engineer you will be responsible for product engineering, resolving metallurgical issues, dealing with quality and production issues they arise, and development of improvements to existing processes. This position will interact with customers from time to time, but will mainly be focused on understanding and working with customer specifications and customer orders.

A successful Metallurgical Engineer will quickly grasp ATI's production processes and business culture, and possess a continuous improvement mindset.

Additional Responsibilities



  • Review customer specifications and support sales teams by approving customer quotes
  • Create and implement items, recipes, mill instructions and other quality system documents for Ni bar products
  • Support certifications and testing of Ni bar orders and shipments
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement tools throughout the manufacturing process of Ni bar products, leading to increased yield, better quality, and reduced costs
  • Provide technical support to commercial teams during customer engagement for both on-site and off-site meetings
  • Communicate results to management, colleagues and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations

Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Working knowledge of wrought processing (i.e., conventional melting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, conditioning, heat treatment, etc.) preferred.
  • Must be comfortable meeting with customers, presenting at technical meetings, and be willing to travel (2-4 times per year).
  • Must be enthusiastic, excited about tackling challenges, and comfortable with working in a continuous improvement environment.
