SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant utilizes advanced accounting principles to analyze financial data and prepare comprehensive financial reports and documents. This role is pivotal in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information, offering insightful analyses, and supporting strategic decision-making processes. Reporting to the Controller, who operates under the guidance of the CFO, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing accounting and reporting functions, performing general and cost accounting tasks, and overseeing the financial close process. This position ensures timely and accurate financial reporting and business analytics and coordinates external audits and tax return preparations in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), IRS regulations, and company policies. Additionally, the Senior Accountant consults with Directors and division personnel on various business issues and financial drivers, develops budgets, and monitors performance to ensure accurate financial records, thereby facilitating the assessment and maintenance of the organization's financial performance.
This role requires collaborating effectively with all organizational levels, including operational staff on the warehouse floor. The successful candidate will leverage their education, experience, and financial expertise to drive organizational results.
RESPONSIBILITIES FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES


  • Responsible for assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain accounting system, including GL and fixed assets.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process improvements and efficiencies, automating where possible.
  • Provide financial analysis, variance explanations, and insights to support decision-making and strategic initiatives.
  • Support external audits and tax return preparation by providing request documentation and explanation.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute monthly reports.
  • Maintain facility rent payment schedule and notes payable schedule.
  • Manage all governmental reporting, including property taxes.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Research queries from managers and make appropriate corrections/adjustments.
  • Provide support to external auditors and tax preparers.
  • Account analysis on various accounts. Set up and maintain all appropriate audit checks and verifications as needed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date procedure manual for the position.
  • Responsible for developing the Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transportation Management System (TMS), and purchasing management reports and processes.
  • Assists with the annual budgeting process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Academic/Credentials/Certifications


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA - preferred (Not required)


Length of experience


  • Five plus years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in private equity-owned companies is a plus


Specialized skills/technical knowledge


  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial analysis, general accounting, and corporate finance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Great Plains & Management Reporter) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Experience in the Warehousing and Logistics Industry is a plus.


Physical Activities / Requirements


  • Sedentary work: sitting for long periods.
  • Movements frequently and regularly require using the wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Able to hear average conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Able to communicate verbally where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately or quickly.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
  • Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally.
  • Duties will also require working in a warehousing setting with multiple stairs and inclines, requiring the ability to stand for long periods and walk long distances.
