Clerical Assistant - The Somneuro Lab

Job Summary

The Somneuro Lab (directed by Dr. Rebecca Spencer) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is seeking a part-time administrative assistant to conduct administrative duties in support of the lab.

Essential Functions



  • Purchase lab equipment and supplies.
  • Track expenses and project budgets.
  • Schedule lab meetings and appointments.
  • Assist with scheduling research-related travel.
  • Assist with project staffing, on-boarding, and communication.
  • Assist with human subjects payments.
  • Post social media advertisements.
  • Edit documents.



Other Functions



  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
  • May be asked to support participant scheduling and screening.



Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action, take initiative and operate with self-direction in a fast-paced environment. Patience and flexibility are important.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with a diverse population of staff and students.
  • Experience tracking expenses and/or working with budgets.
  • Experience with financial tracking software of any kind and/or evidence of ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Mastery of English speaking and writing.



Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • Experience working with computers (conducting upgrades, backing up data, installing software, etc.
  • Associate Degree preferred.



Additional Details



  • This is a temporary, non-benefited position.



Physical Demands/Working Conditions



  • Typical office environment activity.



Work Schedule



  • 10-15 hrs./week, about half of which (involving other staff) should take place between 9-3 pm during the week (Mon-Fri) but the other half (involving independent work) are flexible.



Salary Information



  • $22.00/hour.
