Position Summary

As a part of Student Engagement and Wellness at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the Dean of Students Office is committed to student safety and well-being by fostering a university community of integrity and respect. Functions within the Dean of Students Office include: student conduct, student conflict resolution services, coordination of the CARE Team (behavioral intervention team), generalized student support, student crisis response, and compliance and prevention functions. Additionally, new student service programs and/or initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities

60% - Student Conduct and Restorative Justice

  • Serve as a Conduct Administrator: Review student conduct complaints; advise complainants and respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options; resolve cases informally when possible and refers cases to conflict resolution services or the formal conduct process as needed; maintains all appropriate files related to assigned cases; follow-ups to ensure that assigned conduct sanctions have been completed.
  • Assist in the management of all aspects of the conduct process including initial meetings with students, conduct meetings, and training Appeals Administrators; assist in the management of Conduct protocols
  • Lead and coordinate student conduct response to reports of academic misconduct
  • Maintain accurate electronic case management and student conduct records.
  • Co-chair Academic Misconduct Advisory Board
  • Conduct research, design, and implement restorative processes that are both proactive (community-building) and responsive (in response to conflict and wrongdoing).
  • Coordinate the Restorative Justice Coalition, engaging a broad representation of campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff and community members to offer guidance on restorative practices atMSUDenver.
  • Engage internal and external partners with the Restorative Justice Coalition in order to provide training, mock restorative experiences, and to create educational opportunities for the wider campus.
  • In conjunction with relevant colleagues, offer alternative restorative processes when appropriate to address harms that occur, meet the needs of the parties, and promote accountability.
  • Assist with the management of the restorative justice caseload and support/resolution for students and others that are going through a restorative process.
  • Determine suitability for participation in specific RJ processes, prepare participants for a circle/conference, facilitate, and provide follow-up to parties.

25% - Behavioral Intervention and Case Management Support

  • Serve as a member of theCARETeam (Behavioral Intervention) which is comprised of representatives from campus law enforcement, mental health services (both psychological and psychiatric), disability services, the faculty, and the Dean of Students Office. As a member of the team, play a part in the assessment of student needs and/or risk. Develop appropriate action plans to help minimize risk/harm and that support student success. Adhering to established protocols including expectations pertaining to documentation of case notes and for following up with students who have been referred to campus or community resources.
  • In the absence of the Co-Chairs, lead weeklyCARETeam (Behavioral Intervention) meetings and convene the group in the event of a caseneeding immediate attention.
  • Serve as a primary case manager with students whose reported behaviors have been identified as potentially a risk of harm to themselves, others, or property.
  • Assist in the management ofCARETeam (Behavioral Intervention) protocols, trainings, and all communication/outreach efforts including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about theCARETeam and related processes. Disseminate relevant information toCARETeam members
  • Communicate with staff, parents, families or designated emergency contacts regarding emergencies, including hospitalizations and suicide attempts, to help facilitate a successful return to campus when issues are appropriately resolved.
  • Assist in the assessment of behavioral intervention case management,CARETeam (Behavioral Intervention), and student conduct practices. Subsequently share results withCARETeam and campus decision makers regarding progress and changes to training/protocol.

15% - Additional Duties

  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Serve as designee and backup for the Associate Dean of Students as needed.
  • Liaise with health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to ensure compliance with action plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community and campus entities which provide services that may be of value toMSUDenver students and/or theCARETeam.
  • Provide on-going training and professional development opportunities for student staff. Supervise, recruit, train, evaluate, and provide mentorship to Academic Integrity and Student Accountability Graduate Assistant or practicum students as available
  • Leverage student voices in programmatic decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in crisis intervention and management.
  • Experience maintaining documentation in compliance with rules of confidentiality.
  • Experience collaborating and working on teams.
  • Previous experience with threat assessment programs and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working in higher education or similar setting (residence life, case management, or student conduct) or any equivalent combination of experience
  • Experience working with student information databases/systems and familiarity withFERPAprivacy regulations
  • Awareness of student retention theories, practices, and issues affecting diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations such as low-income, people of color, military veterans,DACA/Dreamers, and first generation college students
  • Experience making professional presentations to groups of up to 50 people
  • Experience researching and writing grant or other funding proposals
  • Demonstrated understanding of student conduct and case management processes
  • Demonstrated experience working with restorative practices in the conduct process
  • Threat assessment certification
  • Conversational speaking ability in Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work Hours

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
  • 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Occasional evening or weekend hours for student events
  • Hybrid work options available for this position
  • Travel: Rarely

Salary for Announcement

We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $49,900 - $74,900. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
