JOB OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of this position is to perform various manual laboring tasks including assisting various skilled tradesman. The incumbent in this position works under the general supervision of the Capital Projects Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist Equipment Operator with minor repairs

Assist Equipment Operator with work related to spotting of equipment (backhoe, front-end loader).

Assist with vacant unit cleanout including furniture removal and emptying trash dumpsters.

Assist Mason with concrete removal and replacement work

Performs light landscaping as needed

Assists with the upkeep of the grounds and the maintenance/warehouse area of the Service Center.

Loads and unloads heavy objects from agency trucks and vehicles.

Picks up trash, refuse, scrap and debris from agency properties and dumps at the trash company.

Uses various work aids and tools to perform assigned work including dolly, hammer, screw driver, etc. Receives work orders and general instructions related to the tasks to be performed. Determines the appropriate sequence, methods and procedures necessary to complete the work. Completes time sheets and other work records. Operates the mechanical functions of trash and delivery vehicles.

Performs various manual laboring tasks related to the maintenance of agency properties.

Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

General knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, procedures, and techniques. Basic knowledge and skill in the use of various power and hand tools, work aids, and equipment necessary to complete the work.

Knowledge of and ability to conform to common work practices, policies, procedures, etc. and work independently; ability to read, write and communicate effectively; ability to comprehend, interpret, and follow written and oral instructions, directions, well with others and function as a member of a crew; knowledge of and ability to follow safety policies, procedures, practices and regulations; ability to organize and plan the sequence of tasks necessary to complete job assignments; possession of a valid Ohio Drives' License, a good driving record, and insurability. Class B CDL preferred or required to obtain during the first year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The work of this position necessarily involves exposure to extremes in temperature. The position requires heavy physical exertion necessitating full and unrestricted body movements and use of all limbs and major muscle groups. This position requires the incumbent for frequent and/or prolonged periods to bend, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, balance, lift very heavy objects, manipulate and grasp. Normal visual acuity is required due to the fact that incumbent must exercise hand-eye coordination, operate an agency vehicle, and manipulate heavy objects. Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
