Manager, Payroll

Job Summary

The Manager, Payroll manages the Company's payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll. The Manager delivers internal and external reporting requirements, creates efficiencies within payroll system functionality, and leads the payroll team in delivering a high level of service and support to internal/external stakeholders. This position is based in Leawood, KS and is not eligible for relocation.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage and develop a control environment to ensure company payrolls are valid and regularly monitored to prevent errors, omissions, and fraud
  • Responsible for review and approval of weekly payroll register
  • Conduct extensive audit procedures and manage accounting requirements, including general ledger reconciliations
  • Support audits for payroll samples, controls, documentation for SOX, 401k audits, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and customers to accurately respond to inquiries and meet special payment requirements
  • Ensure departmental compliance and alignment to company policies, codes, and objectives
  • Resolve escalated payroll issues and/or discrepancies
  • Ensures the team is consistently maintaining excellent customer service with team members and external parties
  • Overall responsibility for system user training and operational procedures
  • Perform analysis, generate reports, and assist the internal teams with special projects
  • Partner with operation and leadership to set and oversee timekeeping philosophy and strategy
What we need from you:
  • 5+ years' experience in a large, multi-state payroll setting
  • 3+ years' experience managing a payroll department
  • Advanced Excel skills including v-lookups and pivot tables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of current payroll and HRIS systems
  • Strong technology aptitude
  • Able to work autonomously under time restraints and think strategically

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Certified Payroll Professional
  • Experience with Oracle Payroll
  • Experience with Infor Work Force Management Time system
