Overview
As a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Hospital Pharmacist works with providers to determine optimal therapy and dosing of medications while guiding nurses and other clinical staff on administration, interactions, compatibilities, and side effects. Responsibilities
Product Verification
- Ensures medication being dispensed is accurate and in date.
- Ensures provider orders are checked for appropriate dosing, interactions, and overall appropriateness.
- Ensures medications are secure and not accessed by individuals who shouldn't have access.
Clinical Services
- Provides accurate admission medication reconciliation.
- Provides dose adjustments, route changes, and antibiotic recommendations.
- Participates in groups and or committees relating to medications.
Development and Education
- Educates patients and staff on medications or medication classes.
- Provides continuing education within the department to enhance staff knowledge.
- Participates in the pharmacy college student rotation program.
- Ensures proper storage, preparation, transport, and disposal of medications within the hospital.
- Delegates and provide direction to pharmacy technicians in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from accredited College of Pharmacy |
Completion of a hospital-based or other applicable residency program |

License(s)/Certification(s): |
Current licensure in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
