Position Summary:

The Communication Specialist is responsible for supporting the national and local communication needs of the organization and its business leaders by driving and executing various communication initiatives and programs. Working with the Communications Director, the position will help manage the day-to-day execution of employee and company communication efforts, including but not limited to the company intranets and websites, executive communications, newsletters, editorial calendar, internal brand standards, employee engagement activities, company presentations, culture programs, communications support for business change initiatives, etc. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for building visual, compelling and engaging internal and external company presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint. This is a fast-paced role involving project management, creative writing, editing, design and content development.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Designing visually compelling and engaging PowerPoint presentations for company needs
  • Coordinating, drafting, editing, and publishing communications through newsletters, email, intranet, video and other media as appropriate. Edit, proof and publish news for posting on the internal intranet site or other platforms
  • Providing support to departments and companies in order to identify internal messages, content opportunities, and their internal communication needs, such as personnel announcements, change management initiatives, etc., and to keep employees informed of our corporate and local initiatives
  • Supporting Communications team in planning and executing company meetings, events, and special projects
  • Developing resources and materials to help recruit, hire and retain the best talent, including our onboarding guide and values messaging
  • Helps lead the initial drafting of executive memos, all employee communications, launch program communications, etc.
  • Design and implement internal communication that reinforce company culture and educate and empower employees to be ambassadors for the company
  • Administers creative solutions for internal communications
  • Other projects or duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Communications, English, Journalism, or related field
  • 2+ years of related experience in roles with progressively more responsibility
  • Must be highly skilled in Microsoft PowerPoint with the ability to build visual, compelling and engaging internal and external company presentations
  • Excellent writing, spelling, and grammar skills
  • Experience with electronic communications (intranet, video, social media)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment within a Corporate organization
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with different experience levels within an organization and lead change initiatives; ability to negotiate with and persuade others, and ability to facilitate team meetings
  • Good listening skills, ability to understand issues and design appropriate solutions
  • Independent, results-oriented with a strong work ethic, tenacity and a persistent approach
  • Must be able to take ownership of projects from conception to completion
  • Strategic and innovative thinking skills
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and ensuring communication strategies meet the needs of the varied internal stakeholder groups
  • Strong knowledge and consistent use of technology; proficiency in MS Office suite including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop. Base knowledge of Canva works also
  • Strong organizational skills, must be able to handle multiple tasks/projects at one time while prioritizing team and company needs, as well as be able to effectively handle changing conditions
  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of food and beverage distribution industry and trends
  • Experience with SharePoint
  • Experience with content design
