This is a 3rd shift position: 10:30pm - 7:00am

Overview: As a Metallography Lab Technician 1, you will be responsible for supporting the operations of the metallography laboratory, assisting in the preparation, analysis, and evaluation of metallic samples using various microscopic and analytical techniques.

Responsibilities:



  • Prepare metallic samples for analysis using cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching techniques following established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of sample preparation methods and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain metallographic microscopes to examine samples for microstructural analysis.
  • Perform grain size measurements, phase analysis, inclusion identification, and other microscopic examinations as required.
  • Conduct mechanical testing (hardness, tensile, etc.) and document results accurately.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results in a laboratory notebook or database.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and analysis.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs or coordinate with maintenance personnel for resolution.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines in handling hazardous materials and operating equipment.
  • Follow established quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.

Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in a laboratory setting.
  • Must be able to pass an eye exam.
  • Experience in metallographic sample preparation and analysis is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using metallographic microscopes and other laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with various metallographic techniques (cutting, mounting, polishing, etching).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and report findings.



Physical Requirements



  • Must be able to walk, climb, lift, push, and pull
  • The work is performed in a heavy industrial environment with high levels of noise, dust, heat and in cold conditions.
