Yamhill County has one temporary (through 6/30/2025) part-time (19 hours/week) position for an Older Adult Outreach Peer Support Specialist to work closely with the Older Adult Behavioral Health Specialist, offering specific screenings and support to older adults in the community. Older Adult Outreach Peer Support Specialists provide in-person visits to individuals in a variety of community settings (including nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, adult foster homes, and private homes) to screen for depression, loneliness and/or substance use, and provide follow up services or referrals as indicated. Individuals in these positions use results from screening tools to identify potential needs and deliver additional support according to client preferences. Services provided may include help with identifying strengths to achieve individual goals, utilizing evidence-based models to reduce depression and/or substance use, assistance with connections to community resources, and referral to behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment if desired.

The Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a human services related field
OR
  • A combination of at least one year's work experience AND two years' post-secondary education in human services related field
OR
  • A high school diploma AND three years' work experience in human services related field.
  • A Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS) certification from a state-approved program or the ability to obtain certification within two (2) months of hire is required.
  • Must have an NPI number or the ability to obtain one upon employment.
  • A valid Oregon driver's license is required
Successful completion of a criminal background check, the results of which may not be cause for disqualification.

The Candidate:
The Older Adult Outreach Peer Support Specialist must be a self-identified current or former recipient of mental health or substance use services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery, is willing to be a role model for older adults experiencing mild to moderate depression, loneliness, and/or mild to moderate substance use, understands the effects of the aging process, and has lived experience or training addressing issues that impact older adults. The successful candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, general keyboarding, and computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Office), a valid license to drive in Oregon, and must have excellent personal boundaries, organizational skills, and demonstrated honesty, accuracy, and integrity.
