About the Role:

Under supervision of the Senior Editor, the Associate Editor researches, acquires, and publishes books in clinical medicine (Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Hematology, and OB/GYN).

The Associate Editor supports the Senior Editor in the following functions: acquiring new book projects, conducting market research; updating status reports; monitoring schedules for projects; evaluating submitted manuscripts from total service vendor, volume editors, and authors; transmitting manuscripts into production; working with Springer specific technologies; corresponding with editors and authors as needed; and, coordinating various post-publication tasks, such as complimentary copies, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Pursues an active and efficient acquisitions program through correspondence, attending medical meetings, consulting with series editors, etc.

  • Using Springer technologies, prepares book proposals and contracts for own projects.

  • Corresponds with and monitors total service vendor to bring in contracted, completed book projects

  • Thoroughly reviews projects submitted by total service vendor or by volume editors or authors and prepares these projects for submission to production

  • Works with various Springer specific technologies

  • Liaises with production personnel and full-service vendors as needed as part of process to complete publication of books

  • Monitors schedule of projects to ensure timely completion through production

  • Conducts market and competitive research in support of their existing portfolio program.

  • Meets goals set by manager for contracts signed, manuscripts transmitted to production, and titles published each year.

  • Interacts with Springer staff members in the following departments: editorial, production, marketing, sales, customer service.

  • Performs related duties as required and as assigned by manager.

  • May supervise Editorial Assistant and/or total service vendor in manuscript preparation and system work.

Volume editors, authors, contributors, production staff, total service vendor, marketing staff, sales staff, and customer service staff. Springer personnel in overseas offices.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent).

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Analytical skills with attention to detail

  • 3-4 years of related experience, preferably publishing

  • Diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills

  • Problem solving skills, resourceful and proactive to manage queries.

  • Excellent networking skills.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $62,400. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
