Summary of Role:
We are seeking a maternity cover for a Publisher. As the maternity cover for this role, you would play a vital role in providing continuity and maintaining a high level of performance for a defined list of 20 high quality peer-reviewed academic journals in the health and behavioral sciences journals program. This role will report to the Editorial Director, Behavioral and Health Sciences Journals.

As the primary publishing contact for these journals, you would work alongside leading academics, policymakers and thought leaders in the behavioral and health sciences, meaning that excellent communication skills, curiosity, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively will be vital. Working with colleagues throughout the business, you will also gain valuable exposure and experience to many aspects of the publishing industry.

This role is a temporary position lasting for a 6-month period.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and develop excellent relationships with external partners, who serve as Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, or Society representatives for the journals included in the program.

  • Monitor current status of all projects in the program via reporting system, liaising with key stakeholders as needed.

  • Resolve queries and maintain communication with Editors and other stakeholders through email, phone, virtual meetings and occasional travel as needed.

  • Cooperates and communicates with production, peer review management, research integrity, marketing and other internal teams concerning individual projects as well as general questions of mutual interest.

  • Prioritize journals for development or inclusion in company initiatives, according to company strategy.

  • Support the management of journals by handling contract renewals, if necessary.

  • Be familiar with COPE guidelines, and able to advise on ethical queries, with necessary supervision and in line with company policies.

  • Maintains teamwork and communication with US and European editorial counterparts about specific immediate questions as well as long term strategy questions. Works with various branches in coordination of the program.

  • Ensure correct filing of documents, thorough note-taking, and organized correspondence to ensure smooth transition after maternity coverage concludes.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • College degree (in a related subject area a plus)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the publishing industry and workflow of scholarly-content

  • Excellent communication and organization skills

  • Highly client-/customer-focused

  • Takes ownership to drive and complete tasks

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to adapt to change

  • Strong attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated interest, education, or experience in related field in the behavioral and health sciences

  • Experience managing a journal portfolio

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of journal publishing experience

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $66,000 - $80,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
