General Summary

Active member of both the SEVIS Compliance and Student Advising teams within International Student and Scholar Services (ISS). Position responsible for applying federal regulatory parameters to determine whether non-immigrant student and exchange faculty members are compliant with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations, as part of the mandatory SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor System) reporting responsibilities of DePaul University. ISS must meet continuous non-negotiable Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) reporting deadlines; as such, the position is responsible for creating and maintaining communication systems for alerts to international students and scholars regarding visa status, performing complicated data reconciliation and analysis to ensure institutional compliance and coordinating institutional reporting through SEVIS. The SEVIS Coordinator assists with student advising and works as part of a team to provide high-quality support services to international students.

Responsibilities & Duties

* Creates and manages a quarterly calendar of audits, related tasks, and both internal and external deadlines and assigns content in the calendar to university staff members with the goal of ensuring that all F-1 and J-1 student are in compliance with federal immigration regulations.

* Conducts regular audits of student records and investigates all SEVIS-reportable changes in PeopleSoft and Terra Dotta.

* Manages the complex transfer of extensive, highly confidential nonimmigrant student data from Terra Dotta to SEVIS in order to ensure university compliance with Department of Homeland Security-mandated SEVIS reporting requirements.

* Monitor SEVIS, PeopleSoft, and Terra Dotta updates, fixes, and enhancements and conducts all necessary end-user testing to ensure that system changes do not negatively impact the university's ability to issue SEVIS documents or meet reporting requirements.

* Assist with advising caseload of F-1 and J-1 non-immigrant students on maintenance of non-immigrant legal status, which affects eligibility to obtain visas at U.S. embassies worldwide; lawfully enroll and work; travel internationally without incident; maintain future eligibility to change non-immigrant status and/or apply for permanent U.S. residency, and to avoid consequences for non-compliance.

* Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) on record with DHS and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) on record with the Department of State as responsible for carrying out federally mandated responsibilities on behalf of the University.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

* Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

* Technical knowledge and aptitude in database management, programs, tools, and technology preferred as well as experience running data processing systems.

* Close attention to detail, good cross-cultural communication skills, and strong computing skills.

* Excellent organizational and time management skills and experience determining priorities effectively while adhering to deadlines are necessary.

* To fulfill the roles of Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer, U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.

Preferred Requirements

* One to two years of administrative experience, preferably in a university setting.

Financial Responsibilities

* Directly supports the university's ability to retain permission to admit and enroll

international students resulting in annual revenue of over $45 million tuition dollars.

Other Skills & Abilities Required

* Strong internal initiative with the ability to independently complete, review and report on work tasks.

* Strong communication skills including writing, speaking/presenting; collaborative/team player; proven intercultural skills.

* Technical knowledge and aptitude in database management, programs, tools, and technology, as well as experience running data processing systems, is necessary.
