Position Summary

As a member of the Counseling Services, the full-time psychotherapist provides in-person assessment and clinical care to a diverse population of Columbia University Irving Medical Center students and their dependents.

Responsibilities

• 
  
  Provision of short term treatment, consultation and referral of students for appropriate care in support of academic success and
  
  
  retention.
  
  
• 
  
  Facilitation of the triage and evaluation process.
  
  
• 
  
  Participation in after hours on-call rotation
  
  
• 
  
  Provision of outreach and education to students.
  
  
• 
  
  Participation on committees and in team meetings within Counseling Services.
  
  
• 
  
  Maintenance of quality assurance and improvement activities.
  
  
• 
  
  Provision of care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner.
  
  
• 
  
  Documentation of care as prescribed by law and in accordance with best practices.
  
  
• Performance of a variety of other job related responsibilities as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• 
  
  Masters level degree or higher with licensure in the state of New York.
  
  
• 
  
  Preference will be given to those with university counseling center experience
  
  
• 
  
  Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention, assessing need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and supervising referral for inpatient care is required.
  
  
• 
  
  Evidence of experience working with severe and persistent psychiatric illness in an outpatient or university setting and/or on a
  
  
  psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent, is required.
  
  
• 
  
  Demonstrated excellence in psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, including mastery of diagnostic nomenclature, and an
  
  
  understanding of best practices in diagnostic evaluation and time-limited
  
  
• Demonstrated commitment to and proficiency in cultural competency.

Preferred Qualifications

• 
  
  Prior experience with and/or additional training in the psychological care of late adolescents and young adults with the following
  
  
  subspecialties: trauma-informed treatment, DBT, multicultural psychology, and substance abuse.
  
  
• 
  
  Training and experience in short-term models of treatment.
  
  
• 
  
  Prior experience in urgent care coordination and high risk psychological evaluations.
