The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary |
This is a 3-year limited term position. Continuation of employment is probably but not guaranteed.
The search is for licensed/certified veterinary technician to join our clinical trials office to help with recruitment, enrollment, sample collection, and communication associated with ongoing and future clinical trials at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (
VTH). Each day, our hospital cares for many patients who are candidates for or participants in clinical trials at the
VTH, and the expansion of our team will streamline sample collection for various ongoing and future studies.
Clinical research describes the study of novel assessments, medications, interventions, or other therapies in animals with naturally occurring disease. Animals with various complaints are brought to the
VTH for advanced care from specialist veterinarians. If these animals have conditions that match ongoing clinical studies, they can be recruited for studies, and enrolled, following informed owner consent for them to take part. This consent discussion covers benefits and risks of participating in the study as well as the specific study protocol. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Optimal candidate will be a licensed veterinary technician to allow collection of blood and other samples within the state veterinary practice act.
- Possess a genuine interest in clinical research.
- Significant skills in animal handling (assistant level) will also be considered acceptable
- Familiarity with animal handling and sample collection.
- Experience in processing of laboratory samples and following SOP for the processing of samples (e.g./ for DCA isolation, white blood cell isolation, centrifugation, and proper storage of samples).
- Interest in learning FDA approval processes and drug development.
- Attention to detail in sample processing and data recording for pivotal studies run at the VTH.
- Good interpersonal skills supporting interaction with clients, veterinarians, and granting agencies.
- Attention to detail with form completion, working with online data entry software, data capture.

- Assistance with recruitment of subjects including using social media, registering active studies on appropriate websites, outreach to veterinarians, maintenance of a data base for a bio-archive of collected samples, interacting with clients to assure informed consent for enrollment.
