Huntsman Advanced Materials is seeking a Battery Laboratory Technician to support operations of the materials development and cell testing lab in the HATC R&D Center in Texas. As the Battery Laboratory Technician, you will: Contribute to operation of battery materials development laboratory, assure safe operations according to local guidance and safety EHS standards Support product development and research projects on battery materials Assist in performing experiments required for qualification of various novel materials. Conduct testing according to established and regular protocols, and support engineers in collecting data as a contribution to reports. Utilize electronic notebook to collect test results and maintain formulation database records. Conduct experiments on battery materials, assemble coin and pouch cells to evaluate electrochemical performance Perform formulation trials (electrode slurries for Li-ion cells) at lab scale and conduct pertinent material characterizations Follow and document procedures for electrode coating and drying, calendaring, cell assembly, and electrochemical testing to evaluate quality and performance metrics Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment used for material characterization and experimental processes including an Argon-filled glovebox Ensure collection of complete work documentation in electronic notebook and shared databases Other job duties as assigned Required Qualifications: You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States. Associate of Science in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline. Experience in chemistry, electrochemistry, materials science/engineering, chemistry, or a related field; preferably with a focus on battery-related topics Experience with material characterization techniques such as measuring rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties. Hands-on laboratory work experience at least 1 year in industrial laboratory setting. Understanding standards of electrochemical cell evaluations. Skills & Knowledge: Attentiveness to chemical laboratory safety guidelines and ability to work according to standard operating procedures. Good knowledge of MS Office, experience with electronic lab notebooks. Passion to learn and a continuous improvement mindset. Team player with strong interpersonal skills and work ethic as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with polymers and carbon materials is an asset. Preferably 1 year of practical lab experience with battery electrodes, slurry mixing, coating, cell assembly, electrochemical testing, or manufacturing. Experience in electrochemistry, lithium battery development, or cell/battery testing would be a great asset. Experience with ARBIN, LANDT, BioLogic, or similar cell testing equipment would be considered an asset Experience with preparation of components of lithium-ion cells would be preferable.
