The Staff Pharmacist performs a combination of clinical and distributive pharmacy services necessary for the provision of pharmaceutical care to each patient. To accomplish this objective, the pharmacist shall interact with other members of the health care team to proactively address drug therapy issues.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Review and verify medication orders.

  • Review and interpret physician orders.
  • Detect therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Monitor drug therapies.
  • Advise health care providers on medication interventions.
  • Provide pharmacologic information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals.
  • Understand that there are dosage variations between children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics and know where to find appropriate information.
  • Oversee the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items in departmental and patient care locations.

Supervise the work of the pharmacy technician(s)

  • Organize and direct pharmacy technician(s)' workflow.
  • Verify the technicians' preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Verify requested medications for the automated dispensing machine.

Is responsible for:

  • Purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintaining records for controlled substances
  • Removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
  • Adhering to infection-control protocols.

Assist in promoting a team atmosphere by treating individuals with respect and honesty and by using direct communication and active listening skills.

  • Be open to change and actively support change.
  • Be open to others' ideas and points of view.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Promote department goals as well as the mission of the hospital.

  • Communicate goals to fellow staff members.
  • Demonstrate measurable goal achievement.
  • Maintain department policies and procedures.
  • Include requirements and guidelines from external agencies (i.e., Joint Commission, State of Wisconsin).
  • Maintain and/or communicate to appropriate party function backlog at a set time.
  • Educate new staff regarding regulations or requirements of those functions that relate to their areas or departments, as directed.
  • Demonstrate acceptance and training of student interns in the department, as directed.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or equivalent.
  • Graduate from accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' inpatient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Computer proficiency and working knowledge of software programs, including Windows packages.
  • Proficient in using automated dispensing machines.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license. Must be granted insurable status by the Rogers Memorial Hospital insurance policy.
