Laboratory Technician

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology is looking for a LaboratoryTechnician who will perform routine lab processes and follow routine protocols under close supervision.

75% or more of effort/time dedicated to a research project investigating the role of the tumor immuno microenvironment on acral melanoma initiation, progression and therapy resistance.

25% or less of effort/time dedicated to laboratory maintenance and experimental assistance to support the general research activities in the laboratory.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The research project (75%) will require mouse handling and treatment experience, basic science techniques, translational research knowledge and problem-solving skills, in addition to reading of the relevant literature. The candidate will be trained by Dr. Vito Rebecca and senior lab members to perform experiments required by the project. These experiments will involve mouse work, genetic silencing approaches, immunofluorescence microscopy, and other cell and molecular biology techniques. The candidate will meet regularly with Dr. Vito Rebecca to plan experiments and discuss results, and he/she will also be expected to present his/her data at group meetings.
  • The laboratory support (25%) activities include preparing solutions and media following standard formulas and procedures, preparing drug stocks, ordering of supplies, and maintaining mice. Laboratory maintenance also includes maintaining lab organization, arranging for repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and complying with biohazard safety standards.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.
  • Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred. Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in biological sciences, or equivalent coursework, and more than 1 year of mouse handling work.
  • Prior lab research experience at the graduate level and/or beyond. Prior experience working with mice, microscopy and/or basic molecular biology desirable.

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY ($42,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
