Position Summary:
STUDENT POSITION - MUST BE ENROLLED IN A SURG TECH PROGRAM Provides surgical technology to direct and indirect care and service under the supervision of a surgical technologist. Assists the surgeon and Surgical technologist and performs operative/invasive procedures. Facilitates the daily operations of surgical services by ensuring instruments and related accessories are appropriate to meet department needs. Provides support function to facilitate the daily operations of patient care and department needs

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a Surgical Technologist Program and
- Will graduate within two years of hire/start date.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
- Work may occasionally require travel to other facilities/hospitals.
- requireduired to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
- Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.

Essential Functions:
- Communicates and collaborates with others.
- Counts are timely and actions reflect clear understanding of the dual responsibility with circulating RN.
- Preparation for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedure that's timely, accurate, effective and efficient.
- Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patient entering the room.
- Scrubs on simple to complex procedures for a variety of specialties.
- Able to "run mayo" independently.
- Is prepared for sequencing, i.e. clamp, cut and tie.
- Attentive to case, pays attention to subtle cues and responds appropriately.
- Performs in first scrub role independently.
- Performs case closing activates such as dressing application, transfer and turnover.
- Monitors the sterile field at all times and points out contaminations.
- Picks cases, suture, instruments and supplies per surgeon preference cards
- Opens sterile supplies without contaminating.
- Open instruments sets, verifying that all indicators are sterilized appropriately.
- Instrument TechnicianProperly wraps and prepares instrument trays for sterilization.
- Wash instrument trays.
- Wipe down case carts/run case cart washer.
- Load and run sterilizer.
- Demonstrates flexibility, speed, and fluidity in response to rapidly changing needs.
- Anticipates and meets need to ensure cases are not delayed.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure availability of instruments and supplies.
- Follows established procedures for care and handling of instruments.
- Operates reprocessing/sterilization equipment (sterilizers, aerators, ultrasonic, etc.).
- Performs all sterilization/disinfection monitoring.
- Uses manufacturer's instructions for all steps of the reprocessing process.
- Labels instruments/supplies accurately.
- Collaborates with Surgical Technologist, RN's and Surgical Instrument lead to ensure resources are available.
- Monitors integrity of instruments to reduce loss and/or damage.
- Monitors reprocessing process to ensure appropriate handling of instruments.
- Inspects instruments for defects and follows instrument repair process.
- Perioperative Nursing AssistantStock warmers on a daily basis.
- Transport of patients.Assist with turnovers in different specialties.
- Able to run Lab/specimen.
- Knowledgeable in multiple support areas such as: instruments, equipment, suture, and preparation area.
- Reviews daily surgery schedule, collaborates with leadership and plans support functions.
- Prepares for age specific case requirements.
- Identifies barriers and initiates appropriate intervention.
- Knowledge of surgical conscience, electronic systems equipment and interrelationships of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op.
- Demonstrates effective critical thinking and problem solving.
- Provides technical assistance to surgeons, RN, Surgical Technologist and support staff.
- Independently sets up and is able to operate equipment for a variety of surgical specialties.
- Provides case specific needs: specialty operating table, case specific assistive devices.
- Able to view multiple specialty, needs collaborate communication and provides required support.
- Establish a Relationship and communication with family members.
- Integrates individual efforts within surgery services to ensure a safe environment, promote teamwork, and satisfaction.
