Men's Soccer Assistant Coach

The
Assistant Men's Soccer Coach is a member of the Athletic Department staff and
will assist the Head Coach in the day-to-day operations of the Men's Soccer
Team. The Assistant Coach provides support and encouragement to
the student athletes. The Assistant Coach will work in good faith and in a manner that enhances team unity by supporting the team and the coaches, so all parties have a
greater chance of achieving their goals.

The Assistant Men's Soccer
Coach is a part-time, exempt, stipend appointment on a schedule established by
the Director of Athletics and the Head Men's Soccer Coach. Internal and external events may
occasionally necessitate an altered work schedule. The Assistant Men's Soccer Coach must be able to work
independently and accurately prioritize tasks.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and contribute to the team's technical training sessions; teach proper technique and training methods.
  • Keep the Head Coach abreast of the team's progress, problems, and/or concerns by reporting to the Head Coach any of these team's academic concerns and/or issues. Preferably in person and by email.
  • The Assistant Coach must have an understanding and appreciation of individual differences in ability, personality, and interests in both learning and motivation.
  • Show athletes how to use fitness center equipment one-on-one or while in a group and instruct them on the proper use of modern physical fitness equipment.
  • Assist with game day operation which includes but not limited to:Field set up, warm-up, in-game coaching, keeping and reporting statistics.
  • Assist with team operations including travel to and from matches.
  • Assist with planning practice sessions.
  • Assist in recruiting process: evaluation of prospective recruits, planning and facilitation of campus visits, weekly contact with recruits to follow up on any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Work in coordination with head coach to monitor team member's academic status, assist with placement of players to four-year colleges, and ensure adherence to NJCAA rules and regulations.
  • As assigned by the head coach, supervision and presence during the team study tables as well as keeping up-to-date records of student's attendance and behaviors during the study tables.
  • The Assistant Coach must be a supportive and positive role model toward the student-athletes, coaching staff and entire Athletics' Support Staff.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent with past experience coaching and/or teaching soccer.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • The Assistant Coach must be professional in actions and appearance.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
