Position description

The Department of History at the University of California, Irvine announces part time, non-tenure-track Unit-18 Faculty ("lecturer") positions for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are seeking candidates with strong teaching credentials who can contribute to our undergraduate program in the following areas:


Winter 2025: Upper-division Lecture Course on the History of Asia

Potential course numbers for topics-vary upper-division Asian History courses are listed below, individual course descriptions can be found at [https://catalogue.uci.edu/schoolofhumanities/departmentofhistory/] Please indicate the specific course topic you would like to offer in your Sample Syllabus.



  • History 171G: Topics in the History of China
  • History 172G: Topics in the History of Japan
  • History 173G: Topics in the History of Korea
  • History 174G: Topics in the History of South Asia
  • History 175G: Topics in the History of Southeast Asia


Spring 2025: History 70A: Problems in History: Asia (Topics Vary)

An introduction to the historical problems, the issues of interpretation, the primary sources, and the historical scholarship of the history of Asia, with an emphasis on developing skills in historical essay-writing.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Advanced degree in a field appropriate to the course and teaching experience at the college level.

Available to teach the course on module (M/W/F for 50 minutes or T/TH for 80 minutes).
