Job Summary

Oversees a physics and dosimetry team, ensuring the design, optimization, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans. Responsible for implementing radiation safety programs, staff training, and supervising the quality management programs. Participates in clinical, research, and educational duties as needed.
Job Description

Accountabilities

  • Supervises and provides technical direction to medical dosimetrists, physicists, therapists, equipment service engineers, and other support staff 15%

  • Responsible for staff scheduling, billing accuracy, and procuring supplies. 10%

  • Supervises the design and implementation of quality management aspects involving external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy equipment. Reviews and approves procedures followed by the radiation therapy staff. 15%

  • Performs various quality assurance procedures for patients and machines to ensure compliance with all state and national standards 15%

  • Advises and consults with physicians to provide guidance to technical staff during patient planning and treatment, develops protocols for performing and verifying monitor unit calculations, and ensures the accuracy of all calculations. 10%

  • Participates in the specification, selection, and acceptance of radiation-producing machines, accessories, andcomputerized treatment-planning systems. 10%

  • Completes all required documentation relating to radiation treatment plans and equipment. Participates in the clinical instruction of newly hired radiation staff and radiation therapy students. 10%

  • Conducts HDR and LDR brachytherapy procedures as needed. 10%

  • Participates in chart rounds to ensure the fulfillment of the prescription and review any changes in dose and patient set-up. 5%

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree - Physics or Medical Physics from an accredited college or university

  • 3 years - Clinical radiation physics work experience
