ABOUT THE POSITION

Environmental Project Manager -Industrial Hygienist | Newark, NJ | Manasquan, NJ | Hybrid

VHB is seeking an Environmental Project Manager/Industrial Hygienist for our growing NJ Hazardous Materials and Industrial Hygiene team. This hire will be responsible for client and project management, proposal preparation, performing investigations, monitoring, and sampling of lead, mold, and asbestos related materials for our clients in NJ and NY metro area. Looking for a seller-doer, eager to fast track their career. Team is based in NJ and travels frequently between offices and sites for project needs. Position will be based out of one of our NJ offices, able to cover NJ/NY metro area projects.

Responsibilities

    Responsible for client and project management, proposal preparation, and performing indoor building investigations/inspections
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders
  • Ability to perform asbestos, mold, lead, PCBs, and other hazardous materials surveys on institutional and commercial buildings, serving as technical lead
  • Oversee/manage staff monitoring the abatement process and ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, according to specifications
  • Oversee project performance; identify risk/conflicts, objectively analyze and communicate/report on each to problem solve
  • Liaises with clients, developers, architects, engineers, and other professionals
  • Organize work schedules and delegate tasks
  • Prepare and review project related reports
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed and that materials used conform to specifications
  • May participate in the development of quality control reports and procedures
  • May participate in the development of job safety practices and in the preparation of site-specific health and safety plans

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to mentor/manage junior staff
  • Ability to manage tasks and projects, independently
  • Ability to work in field and office settings
  • Familiarity with investigation and remediation of indoor environments and hazardous building materials
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Fundamental knowledge of construction and environmental processes

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of indoor environmental consulting/inspection experience (with knowledge of mold, IAQ, microbial, asbestos, lead, PCBs, etc.) required; 8-11 years' experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science/Industrial Hygiene, or related field of study required
  • NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Asbestos Investigator required
  • NYS DOL - Asbestos Project Designer required
  • Strong report writing, field coordination and task management skills required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or on track to obtain preferred
  • OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refresher certifications preferred
  • NYS DOL - Mold Assessor preferred
  • EPA Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor - New York State Endorsement preferred
  • SSPC (C3) - Lead Supervisor/Competent Person for Commercial Building/Superstructures preferred
