Function: Environmental, Health & Safety
Job Summary:The Industrial Health Supervisor is responsible for managing the occupational health systems and continuously improving site health and safety performance, especially regarding industrial hygiene. This individual reports to the Health & Safety Superintendent and also maintains oversight of the EHSSQ document control and training systems.
Job Description:
Job Responsibilities: Functional:
- Identify and interpret current and potential regulatory and company requirements for industrial health considerations that may affect the facility.
- Manage compliance with the facility Respiratory Protection program, Hearing Protection program, Gas Detection program, Radiation Safety program, Hazard Communications program, Occupational Exposure Assessment program, Lab Chemical Hygiene program, Task Hazard Risk Assessment program; as well as provide support to various Occupational Safety and Process Safety Programs.
- Serve as a resource for compliance with existing and changes to CF standards and applicable regulations.
- Manage the Industrial Hygiene (IH) and the Occupational Exposure Assessment programs. This includes annual employee exposure monitoring, scheduling and managing the contract IH technicians, coordination of monitoring during maintenance and turnaround activities, and developing reports and communications based on monitoring data to anticipate and determine appropriate measures to control future exposures.
- Participate in development of the site ventilation plans to ensure personnel protection against occupational health hazards in confined spaces.
- Communicate appropriate information with management as needed to prompt compliance and continuous improvement with Occupational Health programs and processes throughout the site.
- Conduct training of Occupational Health topics for new employee site orientation and periodic refresher training for existing employees and contractors. This includes reviewing training material to ensure accuracy as well as development of training schedule and materials.
- Perform periodic facility field assessments to ensure appropriate implementation of facility occupational health programs and work to improve site health and safety performance by acting as a resource for facility personnel.
- Maintain current on applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and Company Policies, Standards, and Programs to timely communicate any relevant information.
- Conduct approvals for new chemicals coming onsite and maintain accuracy of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) database, including maintaining Tier 2 reports and controls.
- Perform industrial hygiene/health studies including following the site master IH plan, using appropriate methodologies, review of analytical reports, and personnel notifications.
- Serve as primary or alternate RSO as requested.
- Contribute to Safety Work Permit Programs relative to worker health considerations and PPE requirements.
- Ensure calibration and accuracy of occupational health related measuring equipment.
- Oversees EHSSQ document control and training program implementation
- Actively participate and engage as a member of the EHSS team, collaborate, and contribute to the overall improvement of EHS.
- Actively participate in inter-company activities as requested.
Leadership, Communication, & Development:
- Supervises EHSSQ document control and training coordinator(s)
- Be a leader in EHS culture by demonstrating, promoting, and developing processes, practices, and activities that advance and sustain CF's EHS culture.
- Be an educator and mentor for all facility members to empower and engage them in creating and sustaining CF's EHS culture.
- Help remove barriers for facility personnel in meeting EHS expectations.
- Promote and demonstrate the value of continuous improvement of EHS performance.
- Promotes and adheres to all EHS regulations and company policies.
- Keeps up to date with company EHS policies as new information is made available.
- Remains current in practice areas through participation in internal and external professional development opportunities.
Internal Controls:
- Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts.
- Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal controls deficiencies.
- Understands and complies with Procurement Department policies and processes.
Successful Candidates will have:
- Bachelor degree in Occupational Health Science (preferred) with at least 3 years of equivalent H&S experience is required and/or progressing in a recognized occupational health/safety certification that requires a formal rigorous screening process, a minimum of formal education and experience, a written examination and continuous maintenance education requirements (i.e., MPH, CSP, CRSP, CIH, ROH, CMIOSH or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical/petrochemical/refinery environment with IH&S responsibilities is required.
- Working understanding of chemical operations, safety systems, and H&S metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and drive results with personnel in other departments/functions.
- Strong time management and organizational skills; including the ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks with competing demands.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence culture.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local standards, codes, regulations, and laws.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capable of analyzing data and experience with interpretation, writing, and application of procedures in OSHA/H&S/IH related topics.
- Strong computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and database-type specialty software.
- Ability to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
- Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Position Scope/Contribution:
- This position is responsible for supporting Occupational Health compliance, continuous improvement, ensuring cooperation with business objectives, and has significant impact upon the safety culture of the facility.
- Primary function of position will be matched with individual expertise as part of EHSSQ team for an even distribution of workload and may vary in accordance with team needs.
- Secondary function of position will be to oversee execution of EHSSQ document control and training program to support consistent implementation and protocols.
- Travel required: Up to 25%.
