Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technology, Division of Campus Dining seeks a full-time Attendant to work the Manhattan Cafe at our NYC campus. Reporting to the Area Supervisor the Attendant will be responsible for the following:

    Responsibilities:
    • Must learn to operate and serve coffee beverages with use of espresso machine and follow the recipes for all beverages and serve beverages in a timely manner
    • Ensure at the end of each shift that any items needed for coffee bar area needed for the next day are communicated to shift lead and Culinary Operations Manager
    • Assist in preparing and setting up of breakfast items for service (pastries, coffee, egg sandwiches)
    • Assist in preparing and setting up of Lunch items for service (packaged salads, Deli counter, Hot food display)
    • Ensure the cashier's station is set up and ready for service at the designated time.
    • Maintain log book of errors and customer returns. Report all entries to supervisor daily.
    • Must work any special events on campus as required
  • Customer Service:
    • Greet all customers upon entrance and thank customers for their business upon exiting
    • Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service
    • Respond to customer comments; report applicable comments to management
  • Front of House Duties:
    • Replenish and clean service area during less busy periods and as needed
    • Along with the shift lead, using the ordering sheet to document any low inventories of items used by the attendants each day such as;
      • Overhead items- napkins, plates, utensils, straws, cups etc.
      • PC items- cream cheese, butter, sugars, sweeteners, condiments
      • Beverage station items - coffees, Juices, Soda syrups, CO2 tanks, creamers, dairy products
      • Any and all product Pertaining to your restocking duties
    • Serve as backup to the cooks if help is needed; set up and stock and serve food to students
    • Assist Chef with preparing and displaying foods in the deli counter, making sandwiches and cooking off items in the fryer and/or pizza oven
  • Maintenance and Cleaning:
    • Assist with daily cleaning duties in the dining location and seating areas including:
      • Clean equipment and work areas
      • Operate dishwasher and/or scrubbing pots and pans, utensils
      • Clean up lines at end of the meal shift
      • Dispose of or store leftovers and clean counters from debris
    • Comply with NYC Guideline requirements (HACCP) for appearance and hygiene at all times while engaging in handling food, drink, utensils or equipment
  • Time sheets must be filled out on the last day worked and submitted
  • Must complete the sanitation check list for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning
  • Must be able to work in other areas on campus as needed, such as DeSeversky Mansion, all campus cafes, kiosks, food trucks and any/all special events on or off campus.
  • Must be able to work in other positions, such as utility, prep cook, server, as needed should employees in those positions not be able to work due to vacation, sick or personal time.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights and holidays, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a 9-month full-time position. Estimated working months- September through May.



Qualifications

Educational Requirements: (High School or Equivalent), or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired

Must have or be working toward Serve-Safe Certification, and follow the HACCP policies and procedures

Must have valid NYC Health Department certificate

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Excellent computer skills (outlook, Microsoft word, excel, basic computer knowledge)

Ability to perform basic mathematics including: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing

Ability to work a flexible schedule

Advanced computer skills

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND STRESS.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.

USD $30,000.00/Yr.

USD $36,000.00/Yr.
