JOB SUMMARY:

The ESH Inspector I is an entry-level to an intermediate-level position. As an ESH Inspector I, the employee carries out a range of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) assignments while learning the methods of work. Responsibilities include monitoring job sites to support compliance with ESH policies, procedures, and programs. The role operates within general parameter but must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. Has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols. This position may require overtime, in addition to, work on weekends and holidays. This position does not have regular hours or shift work and employee may be asked to start a shift several hours earlier than the oncoming shift.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  1. Must be able to perform atmospheric testing and space inspections to determine if the area is safe for workers and/or hot work.
  2. Must be able to complete and monitor CP Logs; maintain records of inspection and testing.
  3. Must understand all hot work rules and regulations and cold work requirements.
  4. Must be able to read and comprehend the Marine Chemist Certification.
  5. Assist in preparing finding reports with recommendations for corrective action.
  6. Assist in investigating accidents to ascertain the cause and use the findings to recommend future preventive safety measures and to aid in developing a better safety program.
  7. Actively promotes and enforces all company environmental, health and safety standards.
  8. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the Project Management Team and employees.
  9. Conducts daily ESH inspections, when needed, to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  10. Assist in accident investigations, to identify and report root causes for incidents, and violations of employee safety, or compliance relative to safety and health.
  11. Provides guidance to personnel regarding rules, guidelines, and issues related to safety and health programs and practices.
  12. Practices safe working techniques and re-enforces the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  13. Operate, maintain, certify, inspect, calibrate and oversee installation of safety equipment.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum required education: High School diploma/GED, with two 2+ years of experience in a shipyard environment. Required certifications: OSHA Maritime 10-Hour or 30-hour training, Initial and annual 8-hour update for Shipyard Competent Person training. Additional training will be provided upon hiring. Shipboard experience is required.




  1. Prefer 2+ years of experience in ship repair industry preferably in a safety position.
  2. Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  3. Ability to train employees on company safety policy and procedure.
  4. Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  5. Must be able to gain access to military installations.
  6. Must have reliable transportation.
  7. Knowledge of safety regulations and hazards; with ability to execute them.
  8. Knowledge of shipboard navigation and nomenclature.
  9. Ability to perform work with limited or no supervision.
  10. Must be able to climb ladder wells, enter tanks/voids and other confined spaces and take direction from superiors.
  11. Must be Firewatch qualified.
  12. Must be able to traverse multiple classes of U.S. Navy warships to include ladder wells, tight compartments, tanks, voids, bilges and heights exceeding 4'.



Candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers and subcontractors. Perform evaluation and testing in various environments including but not limited to noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions (confined spaces), ensuring proper working environments are established and maintained.
