Job Description

The Surgical Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing radiographic procedures by the application of ionizing radiation to produce radiographic images under a variety of conditions, and assisting physicians as required with the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

Job Relationships
Reports to the Diagnostic Imaging Operations Manager

Principal Responsibilities



  • Responsible for coverage in Ambulatory Surgery, Pain Clinic and Diagnostic Radiology with varying shifts.
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs utilizing proper exposure factors consistent with ALARA according to protocols established by Clinical Radiologists, SC.
  • Ability to operate a C-Arm.
  • Knowledge of and experience in CR/DR/DRX image acquisition and manipulation, including correcting data regarding patient information and image detail in PACS.
  • Knowledgeable of all procedures and protocols in the Surgery department, Pain Clinic and Radiology department.
  • Responsible when using Springfield Clinic computers and telephone as needed for patient care.
  • Proficient use of multiple computer systems relating to job.
  • Provide orientation/training to new technologists.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
Must be a graduate of a JRCERT approved school of Radiology, and provide proof of current active certification with the ARRT.

Licenses/Certificates
Must maintain current active registration with the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Radiography.
Must maintain current active licensure in Radiology with IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Division of Nuclear Safety).
CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

  • Able to work with arms above head.
  • Able to wear lead apron for long periods of time.
  • Able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to move mobile surgical x-ray equipment to various areas in the facility.
  • Ability to perform occasional heavy lifting, i.e. transferring patients to x-ray tables.
  • Able to assist patient to and from carts and tables.
  • Possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.
  • Capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting and twisting.

Working Environment
Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
