Research Data Analyst 3 (Hybrid)

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $77,900- $143,300. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $79,500- $92,000.

This position is a 3-year contract and is eligible for full UC benefits.

The Research Data Analyst will work in the Biostatistics and Data Support Core of the Health Sciences Research Institute to provide biostatistical and data management support to faculty, graduate students, and biomedical researchers from other institutions in the San Joaquin Valley. With considerable independence, in conjunction with faculty, students, and researchers, will devise analysis plans for both behavioral and biomedical research studies and assist in the management of large, complex healthcare datasets (including hospital data, survey data, and data collected from randomized controlled experiments). In addition, the Research Data Analyst will be working with faculty and researchers to prepare methodology sections in grant applications, implement analysis plans, publish findings, and provide guidance to investigators on design and analysis issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
• Train and supervise graduate and undergraduate assistants.
• Summarize findings orally and in written form.
• Consult with investigators on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses.
• Manage relationships with internal and external clients.
• Assist in study design and grant proposal development.
• Present results for investigators using graphs and tables.
• Develop and implement protocols for quality control.
• Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
• Create analytic files with detailed documentation.
• Assist with management and creation of contracts.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related field, or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
• Advanced degree from an accredited university in a related field. (Preferred)
• Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a related field, or seven years of directly related experience. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
• Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.
• Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator). (Preferred)
• Expertise in survey design and weighting, and sample size calculation. (Preferred)
• Database management and programming. (Preferred)
