Department Description

Development Manager (ALUMNI EXTERNAL REL SPEC 4)

Job Summary

Under direction of the Shrem Museum Executive Director of Development with a dotted line reporting to the lead external relations manager in the School and Unit Programs in Development and Alumni Relations, design, create and implement high-level programs in the area of fund development donor stewardship activities, interactions, and membership. Collaborate in the process of research and analysis required to set ambitious annual goals for the museum business plan. Consistently achieve annual revenue and membership goals. Work closely with development staff, museum leadership team, top donors and other museum staff to build gift support. Manage the analytical, technical and research support necessary for fundraising administration and service delivery to Manetti Shrem Museum donors.

Provide consultative support and high-level customer service to address issues and create positive outcomes. Constituents include top donors and prospects, including foundations, corporations, and individual donors, as well as museum volunteers and members at every level of giving. Function with a high degree of autonomy and exercise independent judgment on project management and create innovative solutions that impact future organizational productivity. Generate high-level strategy briefing materials, proposals, presentations, and other development documents needed to support the Founding Director, Executive Director of Development, and Museum Honorary Board.

Develop, implement and maintain internal systems using existing and new technologies for monitoring Shrem Museum donor, prospect and membership strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Perform qualification analyses. Provide high level support for various fundraising strategies and activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing and executing cultivation, stewardship and engagement events and programs.
  • Experience using various software programs (word processing,
    spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, etc.) to accomplish
    assignments. Advanced skills in MS Office 365 Suite.
  • Knowledge of the principles, best practices and trends in membership and fundraising.
  • Organizational and time management skills to achieve progress on multiple simultaneous tasks, meet deadlines, and establish goals and workload priorities with flexibility and shift strategies midstream as program needs and goals shift.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including use of proper grammar, punctuation, editing and proofreading skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in absorbing complex technical and conceptual information, identifying key issues and details, and presenting understandable alternatives, both orally and in writing, to individuals of varying technical expertise at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience working in a museum environment and/or a visual arts nonprofit including experience in museum membership and fundraising
  • Time management and prioritization skills to provide executive level support, including experience developing and managing short and long range planning and program goals.
  • Knowledge of and experience with UC Davis' gift processing and tracking systems including experience with UC Davis development software and prospect management and tracking systems.

Physical Demands

  • Lifts and maneuvers boxes of paper, materials and/or files weighing up to 30 lbs. (hand cart/dolly available).
