Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Information Technology, the Desktop Engineer is responsible for maintaining and enhancing endpoint management systems and services. This role focuses on automating endpoint management across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms from initial system build through system retirement. The Desktop Engineer will leverage existing technologies, including HCL BigFix, Jamf, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune), to automate software and operating system deployment and patching processes. The position also involves building out a catalog of self-service options to enable end users to install software and make configuration changes. Additionally, the Desktop Engineer will collaborate with the campus-wide Aggie Desktop team to benefit the entire campus. Fulfill information security duties; manage and report on compliance with security controls, execute incident response plans, and ensure that information security and privacy are a priority across all duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Experience in managing and supporting Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Experience with endpoint management tools such as HCL BigFix, Jamf, or Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune).
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and basic scripting skills (e.g., GNU BASH, Windows PowerShell, Python).
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively document and train users on technical topics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in ITIL Foundations or a similar IT Service Management methodology.
  • Experience in automating software deployment and patching processes.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with creating and managing self-service software catalogs for end users.

The Desktop Engineer plays a critical role in advancing the department's mission by optimizing endpoint management and improving user experience.
